Glen Jnr   3  vs  2   Temple AFC                                GJFL Div 4                                                        4th May 2008

Glen Jnr are a poor team which, on a good day, Temple should have walked all over, easily.

So what went wrong?.

Before the start of every game each player is assigned a position which slots into a SHAPE for the team.

And you all know that shape and know the importance of keeping that shape.   Mostly, and like today, that shape is 4 - 4 - 2.  Thats 4 defenders, 4 midfielders each with a role to play, and 2 strikers.   Sadly, after the first ten minutes we played the rest of the first half with 4 defenders and 6 strikers giving a very poor Glen team total control of the middle of the park.  And they took advantage scoring 3 goals.

In the second half, although some still continued to over-rule the team instructions, enough players kept their position to enable us to come back and recover 2 goals.

Clearly we have to resolve this problem over the Summer or we will throw away a lot more games.

I know, I know, when we started last Summer everyone wanted to be a striker.  But we can't all be strikers.

And I know you all think that there's glory in being a striker and scoring goals, Charlie feels good today he scored a good goal but how do the rest of you feel?   If a controlled team effort had given us a winning score, no matter who scored the goals, we would all feel good.  And that's the whole point.

Final word.  You did manage to partly pull it back in the second half.  All credit to you.

Temple goalscorers:       Tank Wooffitt, Charlie Jenkin

Temple Star Player:          Ryan McGregor
